The Clarendon Broncos hung up their football cleats and went straight to their basketball shoes as they rolled from one sport to the next with little practice. But they traveled to Tulia last week and brought home an impressive 57-46 win over the Hornets.
Senior Michael Randall led the way on the scoreboard and freshman Braxton Gribble pumped in 19 points that included four three-pointers. Randall hit seven of nine from the bonus line and grabbed 20 rebounds on both ends of the court. He also posted 11 steals, two assists, and one block. Gribble recorded three rebounds, five assists, and five steals while Kreed Robinson racked up five points including one three-pointer, five rebounds and two assists.
Caleb Herbert, Tyler Cavanaugh, and Heston Seay added two points each and together snatched eight rebounds, rive assists and two steals.
The Broncos played hard the first three quarters of the game, but could never get in a position where they were able to lead the Hornets. However; they were able to come alive in the last eight minutes and outscore their opponent 21-6 for the win.
As a team, the Broncos turned in 35 rebounds, 12 assists, and 18 steals.
Things did not go as well for the Broncos at Childress, which is a tough place to play. Trailing from the tip-off, the Broncos fell to the Bobcats 20-48.
Gribble and Robinson led the way with eight and four points respectively. As a team, the Broncos walked away with 32 rebounds and made one of 6 points from the bonus line.
The Bronco’s struggled to get anything to fall from both the two-point line and the three-point arc. Their two-point shooting percentage was low for the amount of the Bronco shooting talent on the court at only 27% and the three-point percentage was at 12 percent.
The Broncos will reset in practice this week and take on Happy at home on December 2 at 8:00 p.m. and play in the White Deer Tournament December 4-6.

The Lady Broncos jumped started their tournament season with five huge wins that brought about a Platinum Championship in Ponder last weekend. The ladies were hitting on all cylinders as they knocked out teams from 3A, 4A, and 5A schools.

The Lady Broncos opened the tournament against Iowa Park and defeated them 50-19. Preslee Smith, Kenidee Hayes, and Madi Benson finished in double figures with 16, 13, and 10 points respectively. The Lady Broncos hit four three-pointers and converted free throws at 60 percent.
They took on 5A Wichita Falls in the next game and pounded them 72-34. Cambree Smith, Gracie Ellis and Berkley Moore took control of the scoreboard and finished with 15, 14, and 12 points. The team knocked down all of their free throws hitting all 11 shots and sunk seven shots from the arc.
Benbrook ISD was the next challenger in the bracket and the Lady Broncos took full control early on leading by 27 points after one quarter of play to get the 66-23 win. Moore was on fire with 16 points that included three for three at the bonus line and two three-pointers. C. Smith had 14, and Hayes helped with 12. The host team was next in line to face the Lady Broncos and stay fairly close all game long. A big third quarter for Ponder put them only two points behind the Lady Broncos as they went in to the final eight minutes of play. C. Smith led the charge with 11 points and Moore finished with nine. P. Smith, Ellis, and Hayes all helped with eight, and Millie McAnear added one.
The final game was against Bridgeport, which turned out to be a foul-fest that went into overtime at 35 all. Thirty-eight free throws were shot by both teams in the game with the Lady Broncos hitting 16 of 29. Bridgeport was only able to put three points in the overtime period compared to seven for the Lady Broncos. Ellis and Hayes were able to hit three of six free throws and Hayes was able to score two field goals in the extra minutes.
Solid play and a lot of determination fueled the Lady Broncos who will be back at home December 2 against Abernathy at 6:30 p.m.

Clarendon public school students, employees, and taxpayers have a special reason to be thankful this season after an anonymous donation was made to help pay for a new bus.
Clarendon CISD Trustees formally accepted the grant during their regular meeting on November 10. School officials say the gift of $359,000 will pay for one of the two travel buses the district recently ordered.
Superintendent Rick Teran told the Enterprise this week the grant came as surprise to the school district but was a gift they gladly accepted.
“How exciting is it that this donation would be made to our district?” Teran said. “How blessed are we? This is money that could have gone anywhere but the decision was made to support our school.”
School officials have long wanted new travel buses, but voters turned down a bond election last fall that would have included funds for that purpose. In September, trustees approved buying two used buses with money the district has in reserves. With this month’s grant, Teran says the district can keep more money in its fund balance for future needs.
Teran also said this week that the district is hoping to have the new buses delivered by December 4, which is ahead of schedule.
In other school business at the November 10 board meeting, trustees cast the district’s votes for the Donley County Appraisal District Board as follows: Shawna Herbert, 367; Chris Topliff, 367; Renee Mott, 369; and Jerry Koontz, 367.

The fourth annual “Shop Small” promotion from the Clarendon Chamber of Commerce will put a grand total of $550 in Chamber Christmas Cash in the hands of lucky winners who shop with local merchants.
Sign-ups at participating merchants will begin Friday, November 28, for drawings that will be held for $100 each Friday on December 5, 12, and 19.
To enter, shoppers will fill out an entry at local participating merchants. The Chamber will gather them up each Friday morning, and hold the drawings live on the Chamber’s Facebook.

Shop at home this holiday season and remember the important role your local merchants play in keeping your community strong. Support the businesses who support your town
Small Business Saturday began in 2010 when it was founded by American Express to help small businesses get more exposure during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year.
According to small business advocates, every $100 spent in locally-owned stores returns $68 to the local community through taxes, payrolls, and other expenditures. That same money spent in another town or online returns nothing to your local community.
The Mulkey Theatre will have a special screening of “The Polar Express” this Sunday, November 30, at 6:00 p.m.
Come in your pajamas and enjoy this holiday tradition at the Mulkey.
Admission will be a donation to the Donley County Community Fund, which is participating in GivingTuesday again this year. Donations will be amplified by the Amarillo Area Foundation.
State Rep. Ken King (R-Canadian) will hold a town hall in Clarendon next Tuesday, December 2, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Bairfield Activity Center.
The stop is part of King’s tour of House District 88 to discuss the 89th Regular Legislative Session as well as the Special Sessions that followed.
King will give a quick overview of the session and then solicit feedback from constituents on issues of vital importance to them and their communities.
“The input and ideas I receive from these meetings help me effectively represent and advocate for my constituents in the Texas House,” King said.
