The Bronco JV hosted Wellington and traveled to Highland Park this week, plus competed in the White Deer Tournament to earn three wins.
They Broncos suffered losses to Wellington at home and Amarillo Accelerated Christian in the tournament.
The Broncos played hard against Wellington but struggled to put a solid game together and lost 31-73. The Broncos were able to stay with them until late in the second quarter when the Rockets capitalized on several turnovers and fouls. They increased their lead by 27 points before the final seven minutes of the game.
Dakotah Jameson did a good job but got in foul trouble early on. He finished with seven points. Tristen Ybarra led the way on the scoreboard with eight, and Rustin Wade put in six. Don’Jae Orr had five and Michael Shattuck added three. Brance Bell hit two free throws for two points.
The Broncos took on Vega in the first round of the WD tournament and defeated them 42-35. The Broncos played solid basketball and were able to convert shots and play strong defense against the Longhorns. They got off to a great start scoring 12 while holding their opponent to four in the opening quarter. They increased their led to nine at the break. The Longhorns attempted a small comeback in the second half, but the Broncos were able to shut them down to get the win.
The Broncos went up against Amarillo Accelerated Christian in the next game that went into double overtime with the Broncos losing 38-39. The Broncos gave their all in the game that could have gone in their favor.
In their final game, the Broncos slid by White Deer for third place defeating them 34-31. They were able to persevere in their final game after a tough previous game. They went toe to toe with the Bucks and never let them get an edge on the court.
The Broncos led by five going into the final quarter of regulation. AC was able to have the upper hand in the final to send the game into overtime. The first overtime ended at 34 all, which prompted another overtime, where AC was able to hit the final free throw of the game to get the win.
The Broncos will play Panhandle at home on January 20 after taking advantage of a bye on January 16. They will travel to Wheeler on January 23 beginning at 5 p.m.
