Runners and walkers will gather in Clarendon this Saturday, April 11, to raise awareness about child abuse during the 14th annual Chance Mark Jones Roar & Run 5K.
More than 60 people have registered for the event, which is hosted by the Clarendon Lions Club and coincides with Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month.
Sign-ins start at 8 a.m. in front of the Donley County Courthouse. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. Race packets will be available for pick-up all day this Friday, April 10, at the Clarendon Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The year’s 5K will again start and end at the Courthouse and will run through the city, around Prospect Park, and past several historic sites.
The race honors the life of four-year-old Chance Mark Jones, who died from abuse in 2011. Proceeds from the annual 5K support the local office of the Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center and help fund the charitable activities of the Clarendon Lions Club, including eyeglasses for local school children, scholarships, the Toys for Joy program, holiday food baskets, and more.
Registration is still open through the morning of the race for people who wish to participate.
