Clarendon senior speedster Madi Benson keeps on winning races in her final season as a Clarendon Lady Bronco. Benson totally dominated the 800m and the 1600m races at the Area track meet and became the top runner in both events. She will advance to the regional meet to be held on the WTAMU campus in Canyon on May 1 and 2.
Benson, who has been running strong since her debut in high school track, has qualified every year in the running events. This year she blasted the field in the 800m with a time of 2:24.04 which was three seconds ahead of the field. Her time of 5:46.83 in the 1600m run was impressive and a good distance ahead of the second-place time of 5:54.83.
Joining Benson at the regional meet will be up and comer Addy Havens, who has been solid in both cross-country and track. Havens finished third in the 3200m race and earned the right to advance. She ran the race in a time of 13:15.09 was not far off the first-pace of 12:49.55. Havens also ran fifth in the 1600-meter crossing the finish line in a time 6:23.64.
Brilynn Bruce qualified in the 200m dash with a solid time of 26.21, just under a minute behind the top qualifier.
Also competing, but not advancing: Emmarie Holland seventh in the 400m, 5th in the 800m, and sixth in the mile relay. At 4:30.71. The other members of the mile relay are Elliot Frausto, Havens, and Benson. The 800m relay was sixth with a time of 1:53.36 and members of the relay are Frausto, Laken Smith, Sequoia Weatherton and Bruce. The sprint relay was run by Frausto, Smith, Weatherton, and Bruce. The foursome finished in a time of 51.79 for fifth place. Smith also competed in the long jump finishing in sixth place with a distance of 32’11”.
