The Clarendon City Council reviewed its job description for the city administrator and evaluated the city secretary during a called meeting on June 23.
Aldermen approved repealing and replacing Ordinance 272, which establishes the administrator’s position, after a thorough review and guidance from legal counsel. The action brings the job description more in line with what the job entails compared to when the ordinance was originally passed years ago.
The council also approved the administrator’s salary range for the purpose of the search for a new city administrator and discussed hiring an interim administrator.
The council met in closed session for about 13 minutes for the evaluation of City Secretary Machiel Covey. Aldermen had started the process during the regular meeting earlier in June. When the council returned to open session they approved a motion that gave Covey a two percent raise but did not extend her contract, which expires in September 2027.
In other city business, the council approved an agreement with the PRPC to continue the city’s recycling program, approved a non-discrimination policy as part of the terms of a TxDOT grant to get new sidewalks in portions of downtown, and got a preliminary look at the city’s draft budget for fiscal year 2027.
