Clarendon is set to welcome visitors for its 149th annual Saints Roost Celebration this weekend to mark the 250th birthday of the United States of America with activities lined up for July 2, 3, and 4.
The annual Depression Lunch will kick off the celebration on Thursday, July 2. The beans and cornbread meal benefiting the Crossties Ministry Center will be held at 11 a.m., but the event will be held at the Lions Hall.
The Coffee Memorial’s Bloodmobile will be in Clarendon for a blood drive July 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations are desperately needed as there is currently a critical shortage of blood in the Panhandle.
The COEA Junior Ranch Rodeo will close out the first day of the celebration activities Thursday, July 4, at 7:30 p.m. with a dance to follow the rodeo.
The Clarendon Lions Club begin the second day of the celebration with a Bag Bingo at the Lions Hall on Friday, July 3. Bingo starts at 11 a.m. and includes a Mexican pile-on lunch. Tickets are $40 per person. The bag bingo features several great prizes including designer purses, coolers, tool bags, and more. Seating is limited so tickets should be purchased as early as possible by calling or texting 806-662-4689.
The first night of the COEA Ranch Rodeo will be that evening at 7:30 p.m. followed by live music with the Bo Moore Band and dancing on the Slab.
The big day will begin Saturday, July 4, with the Arts & Craft Fair on the square at 9 a.m. sponsored by the Donley County 4H. Booths must be reserved through the Donley County 4H by calling 806-874-2141. The Les Beaux Arts Club will host a Quilt Show at the Methodist Church and the Cowboy Church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The theme for this year’s parades is “Stars & Stripes Forever” to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. The Chamber of Commerce’s Liberty Electric Kids’ Bicycle & Tricycle Parade will begin at 9 a.m. The Kids’ Parade will line up at 8:30 at Third and Sully. Line up for the Herring Bank Parade begins at 9 a.m. at Prospect Park with the parade taking off at 10:00. On-site entries for both parades will be accepted, but only entries registered by July 1 will be judged for the awards.
Following the parade, the Al Morrah Shine Club Barbecue will again be held on the square. Tickets are $20 per person and support the Shriners’ work to help crippled and burned children. Tickets will be available on the square or in advance at the Visitor Center.
Musical entertainment this year on the square will be performed by Farrah Sheilds and Jaythan Green.
The Clarendon Country Club July Fourth Golf Tournament is also scheduled, and more details are available by calling 806-874-2166.
The Henson’s Turtle Race will take place at 1:30 p.m., and the Ranch Rodeo will close out the celebration at the COEA Arena Saturday night beginning at 7:30 p.m. with live music on the Slab afterwards.
