Larry Jeffers will lead Hedley ISD as its interim superintendent as the school makes its transition to an elementary-only campus this fall.
Hedley held registration last Wednesday, July 22, and school trustees hired Jeffers on Thursday.
Jeffers said 25 kids signed up for classes in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, and he expects that number will grow to about 30 before school starts on August 11.
The school has students in every grade, and Jeffers said all their school supplies will be provided this year.
“We won’t have any school supply lists,” Jeffers said. “It’s all taken care of.”
Jeffers brings with him 46 years of experience in education with 27 of those as the principal of Clarendon High School before retiring about five years ago. He has also previously served as a principal for Hedley and most recently served as Clarendon CISD’s interim superintendent earlier this year.
Hedley Elementary will hold its Meet the Teacher Night and Title I meeting in the library on August 10 at 6 p.m.
For seventh through 12th graders living in the Hedley school district, Clarendon CISD hosted tours of its junior high and high school facilities Monday and plan more tours on August 10 for those who missed it. Clarendon High School and Clarendon Junior High principals will be at the Hedley School Library this Thursday, July 30, at 6 p.m. for a meet-and-greet with students and parents.
In other Hedley ISD business, trustees at last Thursday’s meeting approved the student code of conduct, the student and employee handbooks, and the Child Nutrition Department Code of Conduct. The board also approved the TASB property insurance for the coming year, and voted to add Jeffers’ name to bank signature cards and school credit cards.
The board will meet August 10 to consider the FY 2027 tax rate.
