The Clarendon College Lady Bulldogs were the runners-up in the final round of the Region V NJCAA tournament Saturday.
Clarendon lost to South Plains College in the final quarter after leading much of the game.
CC beat Midland College 80 to 71 in the semi-finals on Friday. The victory came after Clarendon beat Hill College 86-76 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The regional tournament was held at the Frenship High School Tiger Pit in Wolfforth.

The defending State Champions moved one more step closer to a state appearance again as they took down Vega in Canyon last week, 86-65.
The Broncos had a quick start for most of the first quarter of play but allowed the Longhorns to come within one point after eight minutes. After only leading by seven at the break, the Broncos turned up the heat after the break and proved they were worthy of their second-place state ranking just behind Lipan, who they could meet up with at the state game.
The Broncos turned 19 free shot attempts into 17 points for just under 90 percent from the free throw line, while Vega could only muster 50 percent from the bonus line. Where the Longhorn top scorer excelled was way behind the arc as he hit seven three-pointers and accounted for 42 of the Longhorns’ 65 points.
The Broncos stayed determined to get the win to move to the Regional Quarter Final Round and would never allow Vega to catch any momentum in the game. Three Broncos finished in double figures with Jmaury Davis with 28, Lamarcus Penigar with 20, and Cayden D’Costa helped with 13. Davis, Penigar and Jordan Herndon were perfect at the bonus line. Anthony Ceniceros had five points in the game, Herndon had four, and Tyler Harper and Harrison Howard added two points each.
Tuesday night, the Broncos defeated Gruver for the Regional Quarterfinal title and will play New Home Friday night in Levelland to start the regional tournament. Follow Facebook.com/TheEnterprise for updates and future playoff information.
The Hedley Owls defeated Miami last Tuesday, February 22, to win the Bi-District Championship in Pampa.
Hedley got an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back, closing out the first half with a 34 to 25 advantage over Miami. The second half was closer in each of the third and fourth quarters, but the Owls maintained their lead to win the game, 68-55.
J. Booth led the Owls with 29 points followed by C. Bond with 22. Alston put in 13, and Clark added 4.
Hedley then advanced to the area game on Thursday in Amarillo to face the defending state champions from Texline. Despite a valiant effort by the Owls, Texline overcame Hedley, 42-87, bringing the Owls’ season to an end.
J. Booth was the top scorer for Hedley with 13 points followed by C. Bond and H. Alston with 11 each. Clark added four, and Hinton put in 3.
The Broncos pulled off a good win in the Bi-District round of post-season play by defeating Sunray 60-34 in Pampa Monday night.
The game was not as close as the score revealed as the Broncos’ early shots did not want to go in. But the team stayed solid and worked through their struggles to come out on top.
Three players finished in double figures in the with the team recording seven three-pointers and 50 percent from the bonus line overall.
The early lead belonged to the Broncos at 15-7 after the first eight minutes. Sunray played a scrappy game but could not keep up with the Broncos’ quickness and sharp passes. Their offensive execution gave them the edge they needed, as they were able to settle in and increase their lead to get the win. Lamarcus Penigar led the way with 21, Jmaury Davis helped with 19, and Cayden D’Costa added 11. Tyler Harper and Anthony Ceniceros put in three points each, Kaleb Bolin had two, and Lyric Smith added one free throw.
Last Saturday, the Broncos played in the Randall HS Playoff Preview and went up against Alpine. The Broncos hit 11 shots from the arc and finished with hitting 88 percent of their free throws in their 80-47 win.
Davis led with 29, Penigar had 27, and D’Costa added 14.

The Lady Broncos continued riding high last week with two big wins that gave them the Area title.
Early last week, the Lady Broncos took on Stratford in the Bi-District round and got by them 32-26. Makenna Shadle put in 13 points in the game that included shooting 50 percent from the free throw line and hitting two three-pointers. The
Lady Broncos held the early lead after the first eight minutes and increased their lead to seven at halftime. The Lady Elks struggled to make up the difference before time ran out which allowed Clarendon to get the win.
Joining Shadle on the scoreboard was Madie Smith and Finley Cunningham with six each, Courtlyn Conkin with four, Graci Smith with two, and Hayden Elam with one.
The win over Stratford put them in the Area round against Bovina last Friday; and after a hard-fought battle, the Lady Broncos won, 61-55, in overtime. The ladies executed successfully early on in the game to grab a seven-point advantage at the break enduring a very physical contest. Cunningham was on fire with the three ball and hit five from the arc in the game to finish with 24.
The Lady Broncos picked up where they left off in the third quarter of play to increase the point difference but fell off in the final eight minutes as they allowed Bovina to get back into the game. After the end of regulation, the score was 48 all to send the game to OT.
Shadle was able to take it to the hoop and iced six shots from the bonus line, and Conkin and G. Smith added two free throws each to the point total in the overtime minutes, that allowed the ladies the big win. Helping Cunningham was Conkin who had nine points that included hitting four for four from the bonus line and knocking down one three-pointer. Shadle put in eight and Jayde Gribble added six from her post position. G. Smith had six as well and M. Smith and Elam helped with four each.
The Ladies’ season came to an end in Childress Tuesday night with a loss to Wellington. Game details will be printed in next week’s Enterprise.
The Clarendon Lady Broncos clinched the Bi-District Championship Monday night with a 32-26 win over Stratford in Amarillo.
The win moves the Ladies to the Area Championship game, which will be held this Friday, February 18, against Bovina.
The game will be played at Canyon High School at 7:30 p.m. Details of the bi-district game and the area game will be printed in next week’s issue.
The Lady Broncos had little problems getting the win over Memphis at home last Tuesday night. In total control of the game, the ladies earned a 59-33 win.
Clarendon jumped on the Cyclones early and took a 33-10 lead into the locker room. Finley Cunningham put in nine points in the second quarter to help seal the win early in the game. Memphis struggled to put shots away and points on the board, while the Lady Broncos took advantage of turnovers and missed shots. Makenna Shadle turned up the heat in the final eight minutes and added six points in the win.
Cunningham led the way with 17 points that included five three-pointers. Shadle ended the game with 13 and Madie Smith helped with 10. Hayden Elam and Graci Smith put eight each and Courtlyn Conkin had two.
The Lady Broncos earned a huge win over Shamrock last week as their regular season winds down.
The 47-31 win over the Lady Irish put Clarendon in a playoff game against Stratford scheduled for Monday, February 14, at 6:30 at Amarillo High.
The Lady Broncos jumped in and settled into a good offensive plan early in the game and gained a big lead going into the second half of play. Makenna Shadle and Madie Smith teamed up to pour in 33 points between them to lead the ladies on the scoreboard. Courtlyn Conkin helped with five and made three of three bonus points, and Hayden Elam put in five as well. Graci Smith finished with three, and Jayde Gribble had one.
Earlier in the week, the ladies took on Wellington and played a strong game despite losing 32-44.
The Lady Skyrockets opened the game offensively strong and took a commanding lead. However, the Lady Broncos came back and were able to narrow the scoring gap, but time got away and they took the loss.
Finley Cunningham had the hot hand and dropped five three-pointers of which three came in the third quarter to finish with 16 points. Shadle was right behind her and finished in double figures with 10. Gribble, Smith, and Elam all added two to the score.
Last Friday night, a deep-ranked Panhandle Pantherette team rolled into Clarendon looking for a big win in the opening game of their District schedule; but the Lady Broncos met them at the door and handed them a 44-30 loss.
The teams were fairly even after the first eight minutes, but the Lady Broncos turned up the heat and jumped out to a six-point lead at halftime. Picking up where they left things in the second quarter, the Lady Broncos quickly found their rhythm and made a statement to their opponents, but putting big points on the board. High scorer Hayden Elam made a move in the second half and scored 11 of her 19 total points to help her team secure the win. Elam made good on two three-pointers in the game and went two for two from the bonus line.
Finley Cunningham left no doubt from the arch and hit three-three pointers for nine points. Madie Smith put on a clinic from the free throw line sinking 8 for 8 and Makenna Shadle finished the game with eight points as well.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Broncos hosted Amarillo High junior varsity and lost 35-51. The ladies struggled from the opening quarter and could never get anything going. Trailing 18-26 at the break, the Lady Broncos could not stop the Sandies and took the loss. Shadle led the way with 10 points and Jayde Gribble put in eight. Aubrey Weatherton finished with six, and Smith and Elam put in five points each.
The ladies will continue their District schedule on Friday, January 14 at home against Wellington and at home against Shamrock on Tuesday, January 18.
The Hedley Owls notched two big victories to close out 2021, defeating McLean and Wellington.
The hosted McLean on December 17 and won 87-43.
The Owls opened a wide lead in the first quarter, scoring 27 points to the Tigers’ six. They extended that lead to 49-18 at the half and continued to outscore their opponents in the second half.
Josh Booth led the scoring for Hedley with 35 points, and Elijah Booth had 20. Also scoring for Hedley were Braden Bond 9, Hayden Alston 7, R. Booth 5, Clark 4, Cody Bond 4, and Hinton 3.
The Owls traveled to Wellington on December 31 and brought home a 51-41 win.
The game was pretty well matched with Hedley ahead 24-22 at the half. Wellington outscored Hedley in the third quarter but could not get the lead, and then the Owls dominated in the fourth quarter to win the game.
Josh Booth again led the Owls with 24 points. Cody Bond had 10, Alston had 8, E. Booth had 5, and B. Bond had 4.
