Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation confirmed this morning that US 287 in Clarendon, between Gorst and Kearney streets, is scheduled to fully reopen on Monday, June 22, weather permitting.
TxDOT Public Information Officer Ginger Wilson said the department’s inspector confirmed the plan to reopen the highway. The $4.4 million bridge replacement project between Kearney and Gorst streets began in May 2025 and included construction of a new culvert, bridge rails, and sidewalks. These improvements enhance drainage along this highly traveled corridor, but necessitated closing several intersections in Clarendon’s central business district, which has impacted downtown commerce.
Originally expected to take 19 months to complete, the project was finished significantly ahead of schedule. Reopening will restore all lanes of US 287 and reestablish access between the highway and previously closed streets.
