The Clarendon Broncos went up against a tough Panhandle team last week on the road taking a 22-73 loss to the Panthers.
The Panthers came out strong and held a 28-10 lead at the break. The Broncos did all they could do but were missing four players because of personal reasons. Heston Seay and Tanner Cavanaugh were the lone upper classmen on the court among several underclassmen. However, just like all season long, the boys played with grit and determination. Brance Bell stepped up from the junior varsity and did a great job filling in for Aiden Morris under the basket finishing with four points.
Freshman Braxton Gribble led the way with eight points that included two three-pointers, and Seay put in four. Paxton English hit one three and Morris put in two. Kreed Robinson hit one of two free throws to finish with one point.
The Broncos junior varsity took on Panhandle before the varsity took the floor and were defeated, 79-19.
The Broncos had a slow start making costly turnovers to give the Panthers the momentum they needed to control the game. The Broncos never gave up and tried hard to get back into the game. Tristen Ybarra led the way with seven points and Don’Jae Orr put in five. Rustin Wade posted three, and Shaun Childers and Hunter Caison had two each.

The Lady Broncos spent little time running the gamut on Highland Park and Memphis to close out their regular season last week and secure a spot in post-season play.
The Lady Broncos clobbered the Lady Hornets at 70-6 and breezed by the Lady Cyclones at 74-14.
Neither game was ever contested by their opponents as they were able to execute their offense at will while able to make stops and cause turnovers. They were able to capitalize on those turnovers and missed shots to closed out both games.
Highland Park never gave the ladies any competition on either end of the court and struggled against the Lady Broncos’ offensive attack. The Lady Bronco strong defense frustrated the Lady Hornets as they were not able to climb into double digits until the third quarter of play.

Presley Smith ended with 15 points and Kenidee Hayes and Kate Shaw put in 12 apiece. Laken Smith and Millie McAnear each had eight, Gracie Ellis put in seven, and Madi Benson added six.
Four players finished in double figures in the game against Memphis with P. Smith leading the way with 19 points. G. Ellis, Hayes, and L. Smith turned in 13 points each and Shaw and McAnear helped with eight and four points respectively. The ladies dropped in nine big shots from the arc and made three of four bonus shots in the game.

The Clarendon Broncos put together four solid quarters of play and defeated Highland Park 68-48 at home last week.
However, on Friday, the Broncos came up short against the Cyclones at Memphis at 47-49.
The Broncos played with determination in both games with post-season play in mind and they were able to outlast Highland Park. The Broncos used a big-scoring second quarter to gain a 12-point lead over the Hornets at the break and were able to hold that momentum going into the final half of play. HP was unable to slow the Broncos down before time expired.

Michael Randall led all scorers with 23 points. Braxton Gribble pumped in 14 and Brentley Gaines finished with 12. Randall also racked up 18 rebounds for another double-double and went three of six from the bonus line. Gribble and Gaines dominated from the arc with four and three three-pointers respectively. Overall, the team pumped in eight threes and hit 10 of 17 free throws.
Tyler Cavanaugh put in nine and went two for two from the free throw line and Heston Seay helped with five points and seven rebounds. Kreed Robinson, Caleb Herbert added two points each, and Aiden Morris hit one of two bonus points.
The Broncos were hoping their win over the Hornets would be the propeller to a win over the Cylcones, but they were unable to make a final shot to win or extend the game. The Broncos played hard but were unable to get the win.
Gaines had a big game and put in 15 points that included five three-pointers. Seay added eight and Tyler Cavanaugh put in seven. Gribble had six, Randall finished with five, Herbert helped with four, and Robinson added two. The Broncos only shot 42 percent from the bonus line, which made a big difference in the outcome.
The Broncos travel to Panhandle February 13 and finish their season at home on February 17 against Wheeler at 6:00 p.m.

Avenging an earlier loss to the Wellington Lady Rockets, the Lady Broncos entered the gym with a win in mind last week. They totally owned the Wellington team and defeated them 48-31.
The Lady Broncos dominated from the tip off gaining a five-point lead after the first eight minutes. Despite very physical game play, the Lady Broncos never lost focus in the job they faced. Wellington sent them to the free throw line and the ladies responded hitting seven of eight bonus shots. Berkley Moore and Kenidee Hayes were perfect from the line each hitting both of their shots and Kate Shaw was three of four. Shaw was the strength inside for the Lady Broncos and Hayes held the upper-hand from the arc hitting three huge three-pointers. Moore knocked down too big shots as sell.
Defensively, the Lady Broncos played with fury creating several turnovers and causing rushed shots by the Lady Rockets. They did a great job underneath the basket and grabbed several rebounds while holding off their opponents.
Hayes led all scorers with 17 points and Shaw put in 11. Moore added eight, and Presley Smith had five. Madi Benson put in four and Gracie Ellis helped with three.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Broncos whipped Quanah at home 53-17. The Lady Indians never were a threat as they stayed in single digits on the scoreboard until the final eight minutes of play. The Lady Broncos stayed solid throughout and breezed to the win led by Hayes who put in 16 that included four three-pointers and two for two at the bonus line. Moore hit two big shots to help and finished with eight and Smith and Shaw added eight each. Benson and Millie McAnear added four and Laken Smith, who has stepped up from junior varsity helped with two.
The Lady Broncos will finish their regular season schedule February 10 at Memphis beginning at 6:30 and then prepare for post-season play.

The Clarendon Broncos gained a big district win in an intense game with the Quanah Indians at home last week. The Broncos put together four solid quarters of basketball in their 69–64 win.
Michael Butler finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds for another double–double, and Braxton Gribble put in 14 points with two rebounds and two assists in a game to lead the Broncos to the hard-fought game.
Overall, the Broncos grabbed 28 rebounds, 21 assists, eight steals, and four blocked shots. They were able to hit 70 percent of their two pointers, but only connected on seven of 24 three-pointers in the game. However, the Broncos shot lights out on free throws and converted at 83 percent.
The game was tight throughout with Clarendon holding a three-point lead after one quarter of play. The Indians were able to bounce back before the break to take a one-point lead into the locker room. In a great comeback style, the Broncos were able to rally in the fourth period to outscore the Indians 22 to 11 to get the win.
Also scoring was, Brentley Gaines with eight, Caleb Herbert with seven, Aiden Morris with five, Heston Seay added four, Tyler Cavanaugh hit a big three, and Kreed Robinson helped with two free throws.
The Broncos continued their tough schedule as they traveled to Wellington looking to get revenge on an earlier loss to the Skyrockets competing in a very heated game. Despite playing hard, the Broncos fell to Wellington 52 to 67.
The Rockets had a very productive first half of play as they lead 40-18 at the break. The Broncos struggled to execute offensively against a strong defense. The Broncos were able to regroup and came on strong in the second half of play determined to come back to get the win. They were able to gain the momentum and put points on the board while shutting down Wellington’s attack. But the clock was not on their side, and the Broncos ran out of time late in the fourth quarter and the Rockets earned the win.
Butler put in 24 points and had nine rebounds and two blocks to lead the way for the Broncos. Gribble put in eight points and had four assists, while Seay had seven points and grabbed six rebounds in the game. The team collected 29 rebounds and had 16 assists. The team struggled at the free throw line only hitting seven of 23 shots.
It proved to not be the Broncos’ night at the line. Also scoring was Herbert with six points, Gaines and Morris with four each and Cavanaugh with three.
The Broncos will play at Memphis February 6 and travel to Panhandle February 13. They will finish their district schedule at home against Wheeler February 17 all beginning at 8:00 p.m.

The Lady Broncos played solid against the Wheeler Lady Mustangs last week and were in control throughout to get a huge district win at 53-20.
Kenidee Hayes led the way with 17 points that included three three-pointers, and Kate Shaw added 11 total points and was perfect from the bonus line hitting both free throws she attempted.
Overall, the Lady Broncos finished with three three-pointers and converted nine of ten free throws.
The ladies totally dominated Wheeler and held them to only three points in the first half of play while taking a 27-point lead into the locker room. The Lady Mustangs were never able to grab any momentum in the game as it all belonged to Clarendon.
Presley Smith and Berkley Moore added eight points each, and Gracie Ellis put in three. Madi Benson, Millie McAnear, and Laken Smith helped with two points each.

Earlier in the week, the Lady Broncos hosted Panhandle and fell 38-52. Clarendon struggled to get anything going offensively in the game and were plagued by turnovers and missed shots. The ladies never gave up and were able to start a small comeback in the final eight minutes, however time was their enemy and they took the loss.
Shaw led with 12 and Hayes added 11. Moore put in nine, P. Smith put in four, and Benson had two.
The Lady Broncos will travel to Wellington January 30 and take on Highland Park at home on February 3 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Broncos hosted Panhandle last week and played hard in their 30-64 loss to the Panthers.

The Broncos jumped out on fire and racked up a three-point lead after one quarter at 8-5. But a cold second eight minutes proved to be messy for the Broncos as they struggled on both ends of the court.
The Panthers were able to outscore the Broncos 19-3 to take a 13-point lead at the break. Panhandle was able to use the momentum to take them to a victory.
Overall, the Broncos three three-pointers and converted free throws at only 42 percent.
Michael Randall led with 17 points and Heston Seay added four. Brentley Gaines helped with three, and Paxton English added two.

The Lady Broncos used little effort in their huge 73-17 win over Memphis in the Broncos Gym last week.
The ladies put up 26 points in the first quarter of play and had the game in full control and put it out of reach for the Lady Cyclones by halftime.
They were able to coast up and down the court for the remainder of the game.
Kenidee Hayes played a solid game and finished with 15, and Kate Shaw was strong inside with 13 points. Gracie Ellis and Presley Smith ended with 10 points each and Madi Benson added eight. Millie McAnear helped with six points, Berkley Moore added four, and Addy Havens, Sequoia
Weatherton, and Lakin Smith put in two points each. Eli Rodriguez had a free throw in the game for one point.
The Lady Broncos will travel to Wheeler January 23 and host Quanah January 27 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The Broncos hustled hard and never gave up in their 45-62 loss to Memphis at home last week.
The game was closer than the score revealed as the Broncos committed last minute desperate fouls at the end of the game. The Broncos had a solid first quarter, but struggled in the second eight minutes falling behind by five points. The Cyclones continue to play solid in the second half and the Broncos at bay. Missed free throws hindered both teams who failed to put in even 50 percent of their bonus shots.
Michael Randall had 15 points, and Braxton Gribble hit three three-pointers for nine. Caleb Herbert had seven, Tyler Cavanaugh put in five, Kreed Robinson played hard to finish with four, Heston Seay added three, and Aiden Morris hit two free shots to finish the game with two points.
The Broncos will play at Wheeler January 23 and Quanah at home on January 27 at 8:00 p.m.
